Skills to pay the bills

I love to learn, but also hone.

Over the last 7 years, I’ve worked with start-up, multi-million pound companies and the bloke down the road.

One thing I love about what I do is the people I get to meet. Each client brings a new challenge and somehting for me to learn and push myself with.

User Interface (UI) Design

I design websites using Atom Design guiding principles. I start with a style guide and basic pattern system. Re-usability in both design and code helps with efficiency, maintenance and iteration.

I work predominately inSketch, but have know to partake in other UI tools such as Figma and Adobe XD. If you want a website designed in Photoshop, then you’re a sadist.

Website Development

When it comes to building websites, the client’s is needs are always first. A website not only needs to be functional but actually serve a purpose. Whether its lead generating, selling or showing-off your artwork the purpose it integral.

I work with clients and their needs to ensure that they can actually use their website!

Remote Working

In this world of constant connectivity, I’m lucky to work in an industry where remote work is possible.

As a very good communicator in person, I can also communicate remotely. I have delivered training, presentations and briefings as a remote worker.

I am a father or two wonderful (and young) kids so having the flexibility to be there for them is very important to me. Of course, I’m happy to travel for kick-offs and meetings but I’m predominately a remote worker.

Technical shenanigans

Version control

I work and rely on Git version control for all my sites. This makes remote and collaborative working seamless and safe.

Accessibility

Accessibility is often the middle sibling in website design and build (ignored and un-loved).

The code I write is always accessible and will provide greate user experience for those who need it most. I’ve built AAA web accessible websites and look aim to make my code and designs inclusive.

Partnering

I work to budget and deadlines and always communicate clear deliverables. I take a 50% upfront and 50% on completion/sign-off.
